Bennie and the Tiger by Craig Campbell

Vietnam War Memorial Sculpture

28x22x16" Bronze edition of 25

"There are no words that can adequately express the honor and privilege of being involved in a project like this. "Bennie and the Tiger" is a monument immortalizing the story of Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins and the events that led to him receiving the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for actions in March 1966 during the Vietnam War.

When I met Bennie it was at his family home in Waurika, OK (city where we would install the monument). He seemed stern, or gruff, initially...then he smiled and the whole room lit. The presence, and humility, of this man is immense. For the next three hours we sat in the living room with his family, and he told us the story of the Shau Valley, Vietnam, 1966. I went to the studio immediately and worked straight through without stopping until the piece was finished. I had to get his story in clay and immortalized forever in bronze." -Craig Campbell
