"Bamboo" by Tim Cotterill -the Frogman
Bronze red frog 12ft 6.5ft 5ft #AP1

About the Frogman: Tim Cotterill began creating art when he was a child growing up in Leicester England. But it wasn’t until the early 1970’s that he began his artistic career creating one-of-a-kind bird sculptures from scrap metal he acquired while working in a chop shop. Apprenticing as an engineer and intrigued with both metalwork and nature, Tim soon became a master metal sculptor – creating over a thousand bird and animal sculptures made from scrap metal he found at his local junk yards. Those early works of art sold for nothing compared to what his work sells for today. Over a period of 10 years he crafted around 400 birds and hundreds of other animals sculptures – some of which sold at Sotheby’s.
During the late 1980’s early 1990’s Tim Cotterill moved to the USA and sold his metalwork pieces at street shows and festivals, but he didn’t find true success until he started making his limited edition bronze frogs. It was only in Venice did he truly discover frogs as a sculptural form through which he could express his delightful sense of humor. Growing up in the UK, Tim had developed a lifelong love of things that go jump in the night, and so frogs were a natural progression for his artwork. “As a little boy, I always loved looking for frogs in the fields of England.”
Today, Tim Cotterill is so well known for his bronze frog sculptures that he is frequently refered to as “The Frogman” or simply, “Frogman Tim Cotterill.” His collection of limited edition bronze sculptures are unique, striking and painted with colorful patinas that delight everyone who sees them. Tim has an uncontrollable passion for frogs and loves everything about them — their faces, their webbed feet, their springy legs and their playful nature. What makes Frogman art so famous is the way Tim incorporates every possible expression, contour, and subtlety of frogs found in nature into his colorfully enameled bronze sculptures.
